8 hidden gems in Europe to explore this summer including pretty islands

While Paris and Rome are popular destinations known for their incredible architecture and rich history, they can be inundated with tourists during the summer.

Rather than visiting busy holiday spots this summer, why not choose a destination off the beaten track instead?

The beauty of visiting a hidden gem is you’re more likely to have an authentic experience that won’t be tarnished by hoards of tourists.

From quaint villages to pretty coves, hidden gems can be found all over Europe.

With this in mind, Norton Insurance Brokers and some of their personal client managers have shared some of the best-hidden gems in Europe to explore this summer.

7. Ronda, Spain

Ronda is a lesser-known region in Spain in the mountains of Andalusia. The area is historic and home to the oldest bullring in Spain.

The city of Ronda is located in the Malaga province and has a stone bridge which spans a gorge known as El Tajo.

The bridge, Puente Nuevo, separates the city’s new and old towns.

4. The Azores, Portugal

Jetting off to the Caribbean would be most people’s dream summer holiday, but with the cost of flights plus accommodation, it’s not always possible.

Instead, you could try the Azores – a group of nine volcanic islands located in the mid-Atlantic.

The islands have lush landscapes, blue seas and lots of marine life. Whale watching, thermal springs and hiking are just some of the activities on offer.
