British pop royalty made secret cameo in one of 2024’s biggest music videos
Before her incredible solo comeback, Jade Thirlwall sneakily teased her music by starring in one of the biggest music videos of 2024.
In a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it moment, the former Little Mix legend, 31, can be seen in the background of Fontaines D.C.’s Starburster video.
She confirmed her cameo while chatting to BBC Radio 1 about her admiration for the Irish group, which Jade dubbed ‘one of the best bands of our generation’.
‘We formed an unlikely sort of bond through our music videos,’ Jade shared, explaining both Angel of My Dreams and Starburster were directed by Aube Perrie.
The Fantasy singer continued: ‘When that video came out, nobody realised it — because it was months before my solo release — that I was actually in the Starburster video in the background.’
Fontaines D.C. frontman Grian Chatten walks through a set during the video, which turns out was Jade’s Angel of My Dreams rehearsal.
Jade was filled with praise for Fontaines D.C., who released fourth album Romance in August 2024 to critical acclaim.
She told Radio 1: ‘It’s incredibly hard to pigeonhole them as artists. They’re one of a kind and they are absolutely insane live.’
The group — consisting of Grian, Conor Curley, Conor Deegan III, Tom Coll and Carlos O’Connell — played Glastonbury 2024, closing the Park Stage on Friday night, which Jade said she was ‘lucky’ to have seen.
‘They’re just going to keep getting bigger and bigger because they thoroughly deserve it,’ the Move hitmaker praised.
Fontaines D.C have a firm ‘stan’ in icon Jade, who promised to ‘support’ them as their career continues to blossom.
The group from Dublin have been making music since 2014 but has gained popularity through word-of-mouth and a Grammy nod in 2021.
In 2022 they released third album Skinty Fia which reached number one on the UK and Irish album charts, securing the Brit Award for International Group.
This isn’t the only video the Black Magic hitmaker has made an appearance in outside of her own music.
In 2022, she supported boyfriend Jordan Stephens in his solo song Big Bad Mood with Miraa May — although fans may not have realised this was Jade as her face is covered.
The year before she also starred in Kamille’s music video for Mirror Mirror as ‘the hype girl who brings you out of the dark’.
Little Mix worked extensively with songwriter Kamille before their hiatus, co-writing over 30 songs together including Shout Out To My Ex.
Kamille previously told Metro of their friendship: ‘It’s just amazing having friends over your corner. I love that.’
