Best city in Europe to live named and Britons may be surprised
Ever thought about relocating to sun-soaked Spain, chic Italy or the happiest country in the world – Finland?
Home to some of the most sought-after cities in the world, Europe has no shortage of places to live for those who enjoy an urban life.
But those living in the UK already might not need to look further than a few hours’ train journey to reach the most desirable city on the continent. A recent study has revealed that the best city in Europe to live in is right here in Britain.
The research conducted by Resonance Consultancy crowned London as the world’s top city for both residents and tourists.
The capital city excelled in the study’s liveability, lovability and prosperity rankings, clinching the top spot in the restaurant and startup categories.
However, this accolade may come as a surprise to some Londoners. According to an Economist study, London boasts some of the highest rents relative to wages worldwide.
The Charitable Foundation Trust found that the average rent for a one-bedroom property consumes nearly half of the average Londoner’s salary.
Add to that complaints about early closures of bars and nightclubs, many would argue that London is far from being a 24/7 city.
However, despite these drawbacks, Resonance Capital suggests that the capital has become significantly more appealing to tourists.
Paris, the City of Light, came in second place on the continent. While it’s attracted plenty of attention as the home of the 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games, it’s caveated by its status as one of the most expensive cities globally.
Berlin was named the third-best city to reside in worldwide, with Rome and Madrid also making the top five. Notably, Madrid earned its place in the top five due to its sustainability initiatives.
Spain boasts two cities in the top 10, with Barcelona just missing out on the top five due to its impressive restaurant scene and vibrant nightlife.
