British tourist found dead on Lanzarote beach popular among families
A British holidaymaker has been found dead on a beach in Lanzarote.
The alarm was sounded on the morning of Tuesday, October 5, following the grim discovery at Playa Chica, a small sandy cove in the resort of Puerto del Carmen.
The beach is largely regarded as one of the best family beaches on the Canary Islands.
Police said they are investigating, but there is nothing at this stage pointing to the death being suspicious.
The dead tourist has been described locally as a 34-year-old male.
Emergency services were reportedly called after 7.30am. However, it is not so far clear who discovered the body.
Sun-seekers were fortunate to avoid the torrid scene, as the body was said to have been taken away before anyone arrived to enjoy the temperate conditions and blue skies.
The Civil Guard in Lanzarote was approached for comment.
The death comes just months after another Brit was discovered dead in the southern Spanish town of Mojacar, Andalusia.
A 35-year-old Brit was found dead in July this year, with local police investigating his “violent death”.
Just days earlier, a 50-year-old British man was mowed down by a drunk driver, three times over the legal limit. His wife, 48, was put in a critical condition in hospital, before stabilising.
