FIM Speedway – News – GREAT BRITAIN WINS FIM SPEEDWAY OF NATIONS WORLD TITLE IN MANCHESTER THRILLER
Great Britain won its second FIM Speedway of Nations world title in three years in front of an elated home crowd in Manchester on Saturday evening as runners-up Australia and third-placed Sweden completed the podium.
The Lions’ FIM Speedway Grand Prix stars Dan Bewley and Robert Lambert took their country to FIM SON glory – repeating their 2021 triumph at the National Speedway Stadium and extending the nation’s run of four straight seasons in the world’s top two.
The British pair stormed to gold with an epic 7-2 win over Australia in the Grand Final, with Bewley blazing under Aussie duo Jack Holder and Brady Kurtz to join Lambert at the front as they were roared home by the Manchester crowd.
Australia finished on top after 21 heats with 36 points after stellar performances from Holder and Kurtz earned them an automatic place in the Grand Final.
GB finished second on the score chart with 35 to earn a spot in the Grand Final Qualifier alongside Sweden, who finished third on 27.
Despite a win from Fredrik Lindgren, it was not enough to deny GB a shot at gold in the Grand Final as they sealed a 5-4 heat advantage, before seeing off Australia to avenge their Grand Final loss against the Roos at the 2022 FIM SON Final in Vojens, Denmark.
