Great British Bake Off star Dawn Hollyoak dies aged 61

Great British Bake Off star Dawn Hollyoak has sadly passed away at the age of 61.

The news was announced on Dawn’s social media, with a heartfelt post about the much-loved baker and contestant.

The post reads: “It’s with a heavy heart we announce the passing of our star baker Dawn. Not only a wonderfully talented baker but first and foremost an amazing mother, grandmother, wife and friend.

“Dawn passed away peacefully surrounded by her family. We will miss her forever, but promise to continue her baking legacy!”

Alongside the post was an image of Dawn smiling and holding a cup of tea.

Since the sad news, tributes have been pouring in for Dawn online from fans and fellow contestants.

“I’m so sorry to hear that, send my love to the family, a lovely lady x,” wrote Bake Off‘s Paul Hollywood.

While fellow GBBO contestant Carole Edwards said: “A beautiful and talented lady inside and out, fly high my friend, life just won’t be the same without you. Sending all my love to the family.”

And 2021 Bake Off winner Giuseppe Dell’Anno added: “This is devastating news… I only met Dawn once, but I was blown away by her joyous personality and her infectious smile. She will be sorely missed, but will live in the heart of those who loved her forever!”

Fans also shared messages, with one commenting: “I was deeply saddened to receive this news and my heartfelt sympathies are with you all at the difficult time. I always enjoyed spending time with Dawn, she was an amazing lady and baker.”

While another said: “One of my absolute favorites on GBBO. So sorry to hear this condolences to her friends and family.”

Tributes have been pouring in for Dawn (Channel 4)

Dawn competed in the baking competition back in 2022 and remained in the show for six weeks and seven episodes.

Over on the Bake Off website, Dawn’s profile explains that she loved ‘the challenge of an illusion cake’ and had ‘great attention to detail’ as well as a ‘steady hand’.

It reads: “Dawn loves the challenge of an illusion cake (the more impossible-sounding, the better), favouring wacky and intricate designs that allow her to express her creative talent.

“She prides herself on her steady hand and attention to detail, especially when it comes to the intricacy required for lace patterns on biscuits.”
