How online gambling changed the betting industry

The betting industry has been around for hundreds of years and dates back to even Egyptian times. After all these years, most people would probably expect the industry to die down and if anything, it has gotten more popular than ever over the last decade or so. With technology constantly improving, it is taking the betting business with it.

How Did It Start?

Online betting has been around since the 1990s, which may be a shock to some people, but the first betting site to ever launch was called Intertops and it launched in 1996. This was the first instance of people being able to bet on sports events from their homes.

Although sports betting was really big at the time, the biggest betting sector was the casino side and this was omitted from the early days of online betting. Slots and Roulette were incredibly popular but the capabilities of the computers in the 1990s meant that players couldn’t play online casino games from their homes and this only improved with time.

Where We Are Now

Since the 1990s, it is obvious to see the technological improvements, the internet speed has massively improved, we can use smartphones to bet and the payment methods have changed for the better too. These three things are the best of a massive host of changes and these developments have made way for sports betting and casino games, like slots and roulette, to massively improve. All of this has meant that we can play online casinos games in the UK with ease and have an excellent gaming experience.

The use of 5G in any form of mobile data has been a huge stride for the world of technology in general but this has massively affected the gambling industry. You can bet from anywhere you want, whether you are hiking or at a football match, the possibilities are really endless.

The Benefits Of This

Online betting is obviously a massive thing for the industry and for good reason. The benefits that have come with these improvements are endless and I have mentioned a few but there are many more to name.

The obvious one is the convenience, but the mixture of their gaming options and the convenience makes online betting the best thing about the gambling industry. In 1996 when Intertops was brought out to the public, it only had sports betting available and now being able to play any type of game you want is an incredible advantage.

Another major advantage is the new bonuses and promotions that are being offered because of the tech improvements. Online betting sites offer great bonuses that can bring in new players as well as promotions that keep the active players happy. Whether it’s free spins, free bets or loyalty programs, whatever tickles your fancy is available.

Secure transactions is the best new feature out of all of the new improvements and it prioritizes the safety of players. There are new features and security measures that protect transactions and hide players’ data from hackers. Keeping the player safe should be the biggest priority of all casinos and these improvements have made it a lot better.

What Else Could Change?

Technology is still improving rapidly nearly every day and over the last few years we have seen things like AI and VR start to take over technology. AI is a massive aspect of the industry and it feels like it will start to be a massive part of the industry. It feels like at some point AI could be a whole new thing to bet on.

VR is an interesting one because this feels like the first one that will change the way the games are viewed and played. Being able to play slots or watch football matches, like the European Championship Semi-Final, with a betting HUD in front of your eyes. VR and even AR being used correctly, could make the industry a whole lot better.
