Focusing on the big stories of the day, The World Today with Maryam Moshiri will showcase the BBC’s unparalleled global footprint of journalists and editors to give the most up-to-date and expansive look at the world around us. The audience will hear reports from the BBC’s global language services and specialists in their regions, as well as the BBC’s well-known foreign correspondents.

The World Today with Maryam Moshiri will continue the BBC News Channel’s commitment to live and breaking news, as well as unpacking the biggest global stories of the day with in-depth interviews, and analysis and expertise from the BBC’s most experienced international correspondents.

The BBC News Channel is the most-watched news channel in the UK and has a global audience of 108m.

Maryam Moshiri, Chief Presenter, BBC News Channel, says: “I’m delighted to be launching The World Today on BBC News. This is my dream job and I’m so excited to be working with the unrivalled team of BBC journalists both in the UK and around the world.

“At a time when global events are affecting all our lives on a daily basis The World Today will inform and also make sense of what is happening globally. I want to connect with our diverse UK and world audiences, whether they be watching in the morning in Los Angeles or tuning in in the evening from Dubai. I also think people want to be entertained as well as informed, so we plan to bring audiences the lighter side of news – with an eye on what is trending and what people are talking about in homes and workplaces.”

Paul Royall, Executive Editor, BBC News Channel, says: “The World Today with Maryam Moshiri showcases the BBC’s unparalleled international expertise, and calibre of international reporters and editors. With an important mix of breaking news and in-depth stories, it will provide audiences in the UK and around the world with the information and context they need to understand global events.”

The World Today with Maryam Moshiri joins the prime-time evening line up alongside The Context with Christian Fraser at 20:00 – 22:00 GMT – which is known for its conversational style and focus on discussion and debate with regular panellists and analysis.

This move is the latest evolution of the channel since it launched as a single news channel operation last year. Since then, the channel has been developing its content and digital integration to bring the best of BBC journalism to UK and international audiences.
