Tourists applaud ‘breathtaking’ UK beach with ‘golden sand’ & ‘friendly’ locals
Nestled at the very end of the Gower Peninsula, the small village of Rhossili is located, with steps leading down to its namesake beach, Rhossili Bay. This beautiful stretch of coastline in Swansea has been named among the “most beautiful” beaches in all of the UK, only just missing out on the top spot to a Scottish beach.
The UK is home to countless beautiful beaches, but data compiled by Iglu Cruises from tourist reviews of coastal destinations across the nation has unveiled the top 10.
The team looked at 30 of Tripadvisor’s most popular beaches in the UK and discovered which had the highest percentage of excellent reviews – that is those which amassed an impressive five out of five stars.
Wales‘ Rhossili Bay scores an average of almost 87 percent five-star reviews, earning it the second-place position. The beach is described as “a walker’s dream”, home to “three miles of golden sands”. Tourists applauded the stunning vistas all along the beach, including its impressive rugged clip fronts.
One tourist who visited the beach in the summer of 2023 said Rhossili Bay offers “dramatic views and wonderful walks”. She left a Tripadvisor review stating: “Wow! What a breathtaking place.”
Given the location of the beach, you can anticipate panoramic views surrounded by grass-topped cliffs and endless views of the lapping shoreline. The beach is reached down a steep cliff-top path, but once there, the stretch of sand is well worth the hike.
The beach is also home to one of Gower’s most famous landmarks, Worms Head. This headland is the further westerly point of the Gower Peninsula, derived from an Old English Word ‘term’ meaning ‘sea serpent’ perhaps due to its shape.
The one-mile-long headland comprises three islands: the Inner Head, the Middle Head which is home to a collapsed sea cave known as Devil’s Bridge, and the Outer Head.
However, it isn’t just the incredible views that tourists have applauded, with some also thanking local people from the village of Rhossili and surrounding Gower for making their stay such a special one.
A tourist, who spent a two-week holiday in the region left a review stating: “What a beautiful part of the country Gower is – everything from stunning beaches to woods/forests and moorland.
“Friendly people, lovely food, stunning scenery. It is a lovely place to visit if you like walking, peace and space. They are very dog-friendly and my little puppy was welcomed practically everywhere.” [SIC]
