When you tell someone you live in Manchester, the first question is usually: “City or United?”
Football is in the fabric of this city. And the home fans arriving at the Arena today have been urged by British captain Leon Smith to bring their terrace voices.
On Wednesday, when Britain hoped to win the doubles against Finland for a 3-0 clean sweep, there was a muted atmosphere among the 6,000-plus crowd.
Afterwards, Smith asked for more noise in today’s tie against Argentina and Sunday’s against Canada.
“I urge those coming on Friday and Sunday to empty the tank,” said British captain Leon Smith.
“You see it at the French Open, it’s like a football crowd. It makes a difference at the end of a long day.
“It was really quiet out there and we have to make the most of that home advantage.”
